A Woman’s Take on Figure Collecting

How a Girl Figures

Do I need the entire set?

in: Figures

I’m a little broke at the moment and I’m seriously considering dropping one of my pre-orders. The main reason I bought Asakura was because I wanted the have the entire set, but now my wallet is begging me not to continue, plus there are a few other figures that i’d rather have right now over Tsuruya-san. Like the Max Factory Fauna for instance! With my current financial situation of no job, it’s a little hard for me to spend $50+ on a figure I’m just not sure I want. I will say from looking at the picture they do look amazing standing all together, but I really am not sure I can afford her now. I would rather drop it and then later hope they re-release her as they did with Yuki and Haruhi, or just hope that she doesn’t sell out. From looking at some US based stores I might be able to get her later, but she might cost me a little more. I would definitely get her if i got a job soon, or if someone would just buy my figures, but so far no luck.

Edit: Not sure if people are understanding that I’ve got Haruhi, Mikuri, Yuki and Asakura already. I’m debating on whether or not to get Tsuruya-san as well.

No, but considering that you’re one away from all of them, might as well. I gave up after Yuki and don’t regret it much.

On one hand, the Yuki + Mikuru + Haruhi figures stand as a set on their own, even without the Asakura and Tsuruya ones. You can use this reasoning to limit your buying urges.

    Fineprint:
On the other hand, with my (very limited) collective experience, if you wanted the entire set on first sight but don’t buy two of the figures now, your consciousness will not rest until you complete the set… Regret may even eat you over if those two figures become sold-out and never found again. ;)
    Happy deciding! =D

That’s what credit cards are for! Buy now, worry later ;)
But seriously, if you’re really that low on cash I say wait. Now that MaxFac’s Haruhi line is getting released in the US, you should be able to pick Tsuruya-san up sometime in the future.

@moysim: Credit cards!? HA! how do you think i got my collection to the size it is in one year! I’ve got 5 credit cards and they are all maxed out! no one will give me more credit cards and i’ve got horrible credit since i got so many cards so soon and they have been maxed out for so long…

I personally don’t believe in the ‘collect the whole set’ philosophy. In fact for the Haruhi set, I have the set except for Mikuru since I didn’t like that sculpt that much. Another series - the Shuraki set, I ordered only 3 of the 5. I think we should just purchase the figures we like and not be constraint by buying a figure for the sake of completing the series. That would unnecessarily strain our finances.

In this light, I’d suggest you drop Tsuruya and save for Fauna. :)

I agree with both Moy and Stripey. Since I got my Fauna, I don’t think there’s been a day you haven’t mentioned wanting one for yourself. ;) Although I failed at my “1 figures a month” rule, quality over quantity should be key. There are a lot better looking figures out there now and in the near future, so I’d save the money. And like moy said, it’ll most likely be available here soon enough.

i am starting to agree with most of you! I need to save my money and i should be buying Quality of Quantity. Plus as Deftoned says, i keep mentioning i want my own fauna. i know i want fauna so much more right now than tsuruya-san. plus there is a big chance of being able to get her at a later time. In either stores here in the U.S. or even at anime expo, so then it’s official she’s off the list!

however, if she does get pushed back like Asakura was i might pre-order her once again!

Considering you got all 4, wouldn’t it kill you if you didn’t get the last one? Tsuruya could be the last one from the set and missing out could be a letdown. Based on the sales and availabilty of the last 2 (Asakura & Yuki), I’m sure Tsuruya will be around for a while or maybe even months.

Considering your situation, postponing her will be a good option but depending on how long you willing to wait could be a setback if its sold out quickly.

While many browsers may not notice you are missing Tsuruya due to your extravagant collection but deep down you know you must have it. xD

If you are one off from the entire set, I would buy it. But generally as well I don’t believe in collecting an entire set of characters. Of course I do have the entire set of ARIA figures from BEAT, but I also have a source of disposable income.

Your best bet is to hold off for the time being until you can gather the cash, or do a small job here or there to get the cash you need.

You should have got Tsuruya-san!! She’s so lovely!! If I had a choice between a Tsuruya-san, and any other of the Haruhi girls, it would be Tsuruya-san any day!! But that might not be your preference….
I think it would be a tough choice, Fauna, the lovely Fauna, over Tsuruya-san, who I also love…..

And OMG you dont/didnt have a job and yet you could afford all these figures???!! OMG

I would have just bought the Hare Hare Yukai set! You could display Kyon, Yuki, Haruhi, Mikuru, & Koizumi all doing the hare hare yukai dance on your desktop! :)
