I'm a huge fan of Akira, and when I first started collecting figures one of the first figures I got was Alpha's Kaneda. The one of him sitting on the red chair. Ever since I got him I wanted the Tetsuo to match, but haven't had the chance to get him. I spotted him once at a con for $40 which wasn't a… [more]

Kyo-Ani's first step into making anime figures was such a lovely success. When Yuki was first announced I was apprehensive on getting her since Kyo-ani never made any figures before. It seems from their recent releases of K-on figures that this first beautiful release was a fluke since those suck,… [more]

So this weekend it was my aunt’s 50th birthday, so what did we do? My mom and I jumped on a plane and flew out to Mexico City for 2 days to surprise her for her birthday! I can’t go too of topic here so i’ll get to the point. My cousin decided to take me out on Sunday night, we went into a this one shop that sold magazines. Well of course I went looking for any that might have any bit of anime info in Mexico. I know that it’s not as popular there as it is in the U.S. right now, not thats it’s super popular here, but it has a decent following. Well in this store I did find one magazine that caught my eye. On the cover it had Maison Ikkoku, with the subtitles being “Un clásico que jamas pasará de moda.” Which roughly translates into “A classic that will never go out of style”

Excuse my horrible picture taking, I would have bought it but i had no money on me at the time.

There was another magazine that didn’t have plastic on that that I looked through but it had tons of old info and bad cosplayers. One girl doing a cosplay of the Fewture models Chii figure. I think the worst part wasn’t that I recognized her as a Chii cosplayer even though it had no caption as to who she was cosplaying, but more as I recognized her doing the figure cosplay. It was an eventful trip and I will say that I will never ever in my life complain of California traffic again in my life. I’ve never seen such crazy driving, it’s like stop signs and red lights mean nothing to them!
Update: 1-22-08
technically it’s Spain that has good taste, i’ve been informed by kanami that it’s not a Mexican publication but a Spanish one.
Welcome home. Aren’t you glad I recommended Maison Ikkoku to you?
No pics of the cosplayer? What a pity >_< Chii is cute stuff and I have never seen a cosplayer cosplay her before.
LOL, mexican weeabo here.
Megami is not a mexican magazine, it’s from Spain.
Mexican magazines are crap with bad grammar, “reviews” that spoil ALL THE PLOT of a series, none real critical content, and lots of false/old “news” (most people don’t even know about things like the new Eva movies).
Yeah, Mexico has BAD taste in Anime.
Duh. Megami. It’s MINAMI. Sorry.
@ Kanami: wow thanks i didn’t even know! i did notice one other magazine there was pretty horrible, that one was most likely from mexico^^
thanks for the info
Do you any good anime stores in mexico city?
Sry, I left out a word on my first comment. It was suppose to say if you know any good anime stores in mexico city? I”m going in two weeks and I wanted to buy some things
@lyn:
