Kamikaze Girls

Posted under Anime/Manga

I just saw this movie the other day, a total chick flick but i loved this movie! It’s about a girl who is into lolita style and how she befriends a Yanki and how they become friends. It’s a great movie and the two girls were amazing! I don’t remember the last time i laughed so hard while watching a movie, lately movies have been mediocre and haven’t been up to the standards I remember. Even though this isn’t a recent film it really did lift my spirits, and not to mention make me want to buy a frilly dress and a moped.

Momoko Ryugasaki played by Kyoko Fukada; while the lolita look might be a bit to bold for your taste, it fits this character perfectly. I was drawn into her style and her originality, how she just looked so natural in the frilly dresses. Afterwards on the dvd there was a interview with the cast and they showed Kyoko Fukada in normal clothing, it just didn’t seem right since i had gotten used to her in the lolita fashion!

Anna Tsuchiya does an amazing job as the yanki biker Ichigo Shirayuri. I’ve been a big Anna Tsuchiya fan since I first saw Nana, so this movie was a real treat. She played the role quite well, my friend who was watching the movie with me even mentioned that she wonders is she talks or acts like that in real life.

I truly enjoyed this movie, it’s colorful characters and it’s just overall level of fun I know i’m going to be watching this movie over and over again!

I remember seeing this during the Japanese Film Festival here in Sydney a few years ago. A really enjoyable film about two unusual people becoming friends and the way they overcome the things in life.
