Yamato turns it around with Knee Socks

I haven't been a fan of Yamato's work for quite some time. When I first started collecting figures they were more readily available and I owned a few but after I started finding better quality pieces I sold them all since they were so horrible. I haven't bought a Yamato figure in so many years but recently… [more]

Yoko in a Little Moda Dress

One of the awesome things I love about Etsy is fniding other talented people who make amazing things you end up buying. One thing I spotted was this adorable dress for a Dollfie Dream. But Alas since Yoko is such a busty girl it's hard to find outfits that fit her and I almost passed. That was until… [more]

Griffon Alice Margatroid

So it seems that I’m reviewing figures in themes as of late. How do you guys like it? Should I maybe mix them up a bit or are we liking the idea of themes? I’ve got plenty of Touhou figures to review but then I also recently got a batch of more One Piece figures for you, would you rather I finish these up then the One Piece or should I just mix them up however? I’m enjoying the themes, keeping figures grouped together that normally would be! Well for now It’s more touhou with Alice Margatroid!

The touhou world is a bit confusing to me, It’s so well detailed and each character has such a long history to them, I figure I’ll forgo explaining the teeeny bit I know from what my brother explained and I’ll just leave this Wiki for you!

For the figure itself Alice is very cute, I wonder if her design is based of Alice from Alice in Wonderland at all with the blue dress and blonde hair.

To my understanding this is Hourai, some form of a doll with her that she uses for attacks I think. She’s very cute and reminds me of Reinforce from Nanoha, at least in this figure form she reminds me of the Reinforce that comes with the Alter Hayate.

Love the color combination, it’s very pleasing to the eyes.

She also comes with a book, no idea what she uses it for.

It really is detailed really well, but you can see that the sculpting oh her fingers had a few hiccups and how her middle finger has a few lunps, nothing too bad but I noticed it in these photos.

Cute puffy sleeves.

Some adorable bloomers, and I wonder is she supposed to be floating or flying somehow? Her feet aren’t really “touching” the base.

I love her flowy hair.

Not much to say about Alice, she’s a bit plain. She’s cute and pleasing to look at, well detailed and overall a great figure. Does she stand out sitting on my shelf with the other figures waiting to be reviewed? Not at all. Would I purchase her not knowing what series she’s from or anything of her background? Not really. But if I were a HUGE Touhou fan would she be a part of my collection? You betcha! She really does have a cute face and if I were getting the whole set It’d be a crime not to include her with the rest of the bunch!

The book is her “Grimoire” or book of spells. She doesn’t touch the ground because she is a “Magician” in the true sense (meaning shes not human anymore and she can cast spells with relative ease) shes floating because she can…

see this is why you need to help me write these reviews explaining the characters, but then why let you write it! :p

I like Alice as a character, but I have to agree with you that this figure is a tad plain.

I liked the pose on the Reimu figure you reviewed, and on some of the other Griffon figures especially Flandre.

One would think with all these girls that can fly, they would think up some awesome aerial poses or something.

Maybe Marisa stole her precious thing?

    • Dancing Queen says:

exactly, i would figure give her a more interesting flying pose if she can fly, don’t just have her barely hover over the base

  3. Solorath says:

Really like the Touhou figures, she might be a bit plain but love her clothes. :3 Not a figure that urges me to throw away pre orders to get tho. ^^ And I think that the dress is kind of lifted up because of the floating which we see in series quite often because of that magical floating power. :P As for the review question I personally like the Touhou characters better so might be a bit biased but also like how you’re kind of sticking to a theme, especially if you have the figures to support it. And thus I’d like to see you finish the Touhou now that you’ve started. ^^

    • Dancing Queen says:

well i’m glad you like the themed reviews, i’m not sure if it will continue later on but for now it makes sense since most of the figures i get in batches are from the same series

  4. CainHyde says:

Ew… This version of Alice is quite… plain.
For some reason, I think I’m more interested in the Hourai than Alice herself.
Btw… I personally prefer more Touhou figure than One Piece review. :D
Because me and my wallet not interested in One Piece figure at all. :D
    LOL

  5. Flip says:

Her expression is far too plain, she has nothing on Reimu.

  6. Phuong says:

I’m pretty sure the doll is Shanghai. Then again, neither canon or the fandom are really clear on which one is which.

  7. Punynari says:

    Not at all a bad figure, but I’d love to see an Alice with a bit more of an action pose. Those dolls are not for decoration after all. Contents may be explosive. ^^;

Thanks for the review. I had my Griffon Alice mailed to my house in the states, so I haven’t actually got to take a look at her. She’s a cutie.

    • Dancing Queen says:

well you’ll love her when you get her, she is cute, just a little plain but she looks great next to the other touhou figures

  8. ddh4mster says:

Griffon really went all out with the Touhou series since last year.
In any case in spite of all the details and yes of course this is indeed a very cute figurine,
The figurine needs a little bit of smile :) ; and I am sure that is what is currently lacking in this figurine hehe…

I will be looking forward to the next touhou review ^^b

I’ve looked at the Wiki page you’ve linked to before so of course I had to visit it again when I saw it here. But even after having reviewed it several times I come away just nodding my head. I seem to always come at it thinking I could somehow get one of each character, because the designs are excellent, but I always leave the page feeling overwhelmed. Eegads there are a bunch of them!

I don’t know if your original question regarding mixing up reviews of figures’ series was rhetorical or not but on the chance that it wasn’t, I’d vote to mix them up vs. not. I’ve actually loved this great block of QB and TP reviews but I imagine if either (or both!) were a series I wasn’t interested in then I’d be lamenting for something different. Sure, through chance alone, fate might hold that there might still be a few in a row that I was uninterested in but even then I’d still be actively curious about the next review. If it was otherwise a case in which I already knew the next bunch of reviews wouldn’t float my boat then I’m more likely to unintentionally drift off expecting (but forgetting) to check back in “a few weeks”.

I have immersed myself in Touhou for 2 years now and still have no idea who some of the characters or their stories. So much to learn.

I never noticed this figure had been released I like it, although I wish it had a more interesting pose than just standing/floating there.

  12. Yami says:

I don’t know much bout Touhou but this Alice looks really cute. I like the strong colours~!

  13. tsuruya99 says:
