I’m not the kind to do a loot post, but this Anime Expo was a Gurren Lagann Fangirl’s dream come true! I got so much stuff it doesn’t all fit into one picture! As you can see by the Gurren Dan Flag it’s signed, by Gurren Lagann director Imaishi Hiroyuki and Gurren Lagann Character Designer Nishigori Atsushi! This is now my pride and joy and my new goal is that when they bring anyone related to Gurren Lagann to have them sign this Flag for me!

Tons of Keychains, seems i want to break the ignition on my car again >_< I’ll just make sure to pull the Keys when driving so the weight doesn’t break my car again. Also a Yoko Skull change purse, and two and you can see two skull pins, one is a pin, the other is a hair clip. Oh course i had to get both! Also the Yoko Patch, gonna have to make an awesome Yoko jacket to put that on!

Got the Glass set! Couldn’t pass those up! Also the Core Drill neckace which will never leave my neck! Also a cute Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee Mug.

I only got figures that were on my list of wished list. Saw Char at the Toylet booth and couldn’t pass her up! I bought Char on the last day and really wonder why no other self respecting figure collector didn’t snatch her up before me? Also got the very sexy Chu Chu Astram from Toylet as well. Got my hands on the Ouka-Chan Nendoroid at a booth that was selling her for cheap since her box was a bit banged up, but she wasn’t damaged so i couldn’t pass up that deal. The terrible Sailor Moon dolls are only for the nostalgic factor, I used to own those exact dolls when I was younger but lost them some time ago, I was able to get all three for a good price as well! Also Max Factory’s Hinata Himawari who i got from Anime King for $20 and Alter’s Hitotsubashi Yurie that i’ve been looking for, forgot where i got her but she was  good price at $40.

Some badass Gurren Lagann towels which really came in handy when we ran out of clean towels in our hotel!

Only Detroit Metal City Merchandise i could find! A Krauser No-ren curtain (no ideea where i’ll hang it) and some awesome keychain plushies!

Got a Gurren Lagann shirt and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to own Simon’s Jacket! I’m gonna be wearing this jacket everywhere! Thanks to my big brother for getting me the most badass jacket the world has seen! Also some art from the artist alley. I almost never buy anything from the artist alley but really something about the eyes on Yoko and Nia just called to me and I had to get them!

This poster was actually a gift from my friend Evan, I told him how a big Gurren Lagann fan I was and he had his poster with him from last year, this was a giveaway poster they had at the bandai booth that I missed out on last year. Gonna laminate this and find a place to put it since my walls are all full now :’(

And my prized purchase this year at Anime Expo again came from the Toylet booth. The amazing Yoko Towel, no way can i use her and get her all dirty! So instead she’s hung up in my bathroom! See i’m so otaku even my bathroom is being filled with amazing Otaku Goodies! Now to convince my parents to let me hang up posters in the rest of the house!

I bring up this topic once again because during my trip to Mexico I realized something very interesting. First thing we did in Mexico was go to the movies; we went to see Revolutionary Road. Now my first concern when my aunt told me we were going to the movies was the fact that is it was going to be in English or not. My Spanish is good but I’m so used to hearing my family speak it that if they say something I don’t understand I can ask them to explain things to me. I can’t ask a movie to stop and explain to me a certain phrase, so I was honestly worried. But my aunt told me “don’t worry the movie is in English, it’ll just have the subtitles in Spanish on the bottom.”

I thought ok that’s fine and we went and enjoyed the movie. The next few days at night we would sit around and watch TV. Now it really didn’t occur to me that everything we watched was in English, I thought maybe they are putting on channels that play them in English for me, since my Spanish is still not perfect. It wasn’t until my aunt gave me the controls and let me choose what to watch when everyone went to bed. I noticed almost all the channels playing American shows or movies were in English with Spanish Subtitles. I asked my aunt why this was, I know they dub over stuff as well so why not show it dubbed? She explained that they prefer it in English, that when a channel broadcasts a show Dubbed in Spanish the quality of the Dub tends to be very bad and the emotions don’t transfer over as well. She also explained when it comes to background music and background noises such as explosions and such. It doesn’t get transferred over. So if there is an action movie and they dub it over they remove all the sound and just replace it with their own so it sounds very bad.

I thought that maybe it was just the certain shows that did this so it was just easier for them to subtitle them and that was it. But then I switched over the HBO since they were airing an episode of True Blood. I noticed the episode was in English with Subtitles. Not what I noticed was weird is that all of HBO’s shows and movies were in English w/subs. What caught my attention about that is that here we have HBO as well in my home. It comes with HBO HD, HBO WEST, HBO Comedy, and HBO Latino, where everything is dubbed, from movies to the HBO original programs.

Now why would they have a dubbed over HBO Latino in the Us but not in Mexico? I asked my aunt about that. They don’t like dubs, same reason I don’t. You lose the Emotion and you lose the quality. They prefer to watch it in its original form. When you go to the movies the only movies shown dubbed are kid movies since some kids might be too young to read. But any other movie is shown with subtitles.

I found this very interesting because even my aunt said it just how I always say it here. You don’t read the subtitles, you skim over them. Our brains are designed that you don’t have to read everything, like when driving down the road you can see a sign and don’t have to sit there and “read it” you skim over it and you can see it obviously says” 15 Freeway on ramp 15 miles.” If you honestly sit there and read Subtitles you’ll never be able to enjoy the anime or movie or TV show fully. You have to skim over them and then enjoy your series. Now I have to say I’ve been conditioned to watch TV and such with Subtitles since I was a little girl. My father happens to be 60% deaf and we have always had closed captioned TV and movies with subtitles so he can enjoy the movie with us as well.

When you live your entire life with subtitles it comes as a second nature to not read them and skim over them. Knowing the language has nothing to do with watching a show in its original language. I don’t speak French, Italian or Japanese. Yet I do enjoy watching TV, Movies and Anime in these languages, as long as it’s the original language it was made in. yes I understand Subs aren’t for everyone. But really if you give it a try and get used to not reading but skimming over the subs you’ll find anime much more enjoyable and find yourself remembering certain words enough in other languages that when you hear them without subs you’ll find you recognize them. Watching Movies in Spanish and French really has helped me improve in both and I know if I focused on studying French, Italian or Japanese it would be much easier since my ears are much more accustomed to hearing it much more often.

Now here is my question for all of you outside of the US when a movie is released do they dub it or sub it? Is this as I think maybe an American thing? I notice that when a foreign film is released here it might be released in very few theaters subbed, and then if it gets popular they do a wide release but of it dubbed. Because there are too many people who won’t watch it if they have to “read,” far too many people feel they have to read the movie and don’t understand the idea of skimming over the subs. How do you feel on this topic? Last time I talked about my feelings on Dubbed Anime I got plenty of responses and I loved the amount of people who thought up really interesting arguments for both sides. Let’s get more of this kind of conversation.

It’s that time of the year again! Exactly one year ago i posted My reverse Harem. It was quite popular so i felt like doing it again since it really does need to be updated.

My last Harem has at least one guy that needs to be removed. Sorry but Renji, you’re out. The suckyness of Bleach has ruined my love for you. Even though you were a big part of my harem last year my tastes have changed and my love for you has just kept dwindling. Also I’m removing Gene Starwind, not that i don’t’ like him anymore, but really, my Harem needs space for some new meat!

Now onwards to my list!

Sagara Sousuke
Anime: Full Metal Panic (2002)

It’s hard for me to describe why i love Souske so much. I mentioned in my last harem post how i loved his quirkiness and that hasn’t changed. I think the biggest reason he’s still on the list is Full Metal Panic’s re-watchablity. If it were a series that i would watch once then forget he wouldn’t even be up for consideration. Plus I had just purchased the first two novels of FMP and my love for Souske and the FMP story was re-ignited in a big way. The novels are really amazing and if you haven’t picked them up i really suggest you do so.

Kamina
Anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (2007)
Seiyuu: Konishi Katsuyuki

I’ve Loved Kamina since i saw the first episode of Gurren Lagann last year. Kamina is a character that is hard to not like. While his life may have been ended short he was never forgotten within the Dai Gurren Dan. And he’ll never be forgotten for me. He’s a major part of Gurren Lagann’s story and honestly without him they wouldn’t have made it as far as they did. While Simon may have been the one with the power, without his Aniki there to back him up with a big grin he wouldn’t have been able to get as far as he did. Characters like Kamina are the reason i love anime so much. You don’t see characters or people like Kamina often and if you do they are deemed reckless idiots. But there was a method to Kamina’s madness (not that he was crazy.) Plus he’s so badass he gets a place on my car as well!

Lockon Stratos
Anime: Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2007)

Now normally i wait a few months before I add another person into my harem. I’ve got to make sure it’s love and not infatuation. But i have to make an exception for this guy. I’ve already professed my love once and here i am doing it again. Lockon Stratos, You are worthy of my Harem! I’m sooo eager for the next season of Gundam 00, I’m eager to see what they will do with Lockon’s character. I was reminded on how there was a scene in the first season where Lockon goes to leave flowers at his family’s grave, and there were already flowers and someone who looked EXACTLY like Lockon hiding in the shadows. I’m just worried that this new Lockon is going to be some evil jerk… So for now until we see how Lockon will be in the next season. I’m going to specify that the Lockon i <3 is Lockon Stratos of Season 1.

Nobuo “Nobu” Terashima

The second time a Seki Tomokazu character makes my list. For nobu it’s quite simple as to why he’s on my list, It’s the Guitar. Nobu is a Hopeless romantic who just wants to write music and find his love. He’s had his heart broken by Hachi and while Nana and Hachi may be the main characters, Nobu is a main reason i keep reading. I’m still hoping that somewhere down the road Hachi returns to Nobu. But i have no idea what will happen since NO ONE IS RELEASING SCANS OF NANA!!!!!!!

Okazaki Tomoya

Want to know why Tomoya is in my list? Other than the fact that he looks hot shirtless? He’s the first guy in a Harem type anime (that i’ve seen) that has some backbone. Most Harem leads are spineless wimps who wouldn’t really amount to much. They are your typical losers, yet all the girls somehow fall for him. Tomoya is Sarcastic and a delinquent, yet he has had his share of problems in his life. It was so refreshing to see a male lead be so awesome in this type of show. For his sarcastic nature and still willing to help out the girls who do need help, Tomoya gets a spot in my Harem.

Li Syaoran

Well in most harems there is the typical “loli” character or Imouto. So why i can’t i have my Shota character?I’ve always liked Syaoran since i first saw CCS in Middle School. I wonder now why i didn’t add him to my original Harem, he’s always a character I’ve had a soft spot for.How he goes from Rival to Love Interest is just so awesome! Now don’t get this confused with Syaoran of Tsubasa Chronicles. Yes i could have used him instead and had someone who would have been closer to a much more legal age. But in all honesty i didn’t like Tsubasa Chronicles as much as i adored CCS.

There are some Men who would have had a prominent place in my harem but certain problems arose when i was going to choose them.

Saotomoe Alto
Anime: Macross Frontier (2008)
Seiyuu: Nakamura Yuuichi

Only reason Alto isn’t in my harem is that Macross Frontier is still too new. Alto so far, is pretty cool and badass in my book. Plus i adore his hair! But there is still so much more of Macross to come and Alto’s Character could either get much more awesome, or it go go south…I’d rather wait till next year to decide on whether or not he’s still worthy of my harem. But for now he’s just a runner up.

Harima Kenji
Anime: School Rumble (2004)
Seiyuu: Takahashi Hiroki

Harima sadly only has one thing that is a very large fault that isn’t even his fault. He looks too much like my ex bf. But Harima is much cuter and much more badass. His likeness to a real life person who i despise is the reason Harmia isn’t in my Harem. While his personality is nothing like my EX at all. His character design is all too similar. But since i still love harima for his personality he’s a runner up for my harem.

Simon
Anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (2007)
Seiyuu: Kakihara Tetsuya

I have only one real rule that i follow for my harem. No two characters of the same series. For that Simon gets the ax. Sorry Simon while the second Arc of Gurren Lagann shows how awesome Simon really is, in my mind he still never surpasses my love for Kamina. Plus without Kamina, Simon would never have been even remotely as awesome as he gets near the end!

Dr. Franken Stein
Anime: Soul Eater (2008)
Seiyuu: Uchida Yuya

Once again another left out of the harem since his character is still too new. Stein is still pretty badass and i really like his character but since the show is still far too new, i can’t put him in my harem since his character can go up or down really.

Kururugi Suzaku
Anime: Code Geass( 2006)
Seiyuu: Sakurai Takahiro

Why isn’t Suzaku in my harem? I did profess my love to him just the other day! Simple, Geass is almost done and we have no idea what Sunrise is going to pull on us now! They may find a way to make me not like Suzaku anymore. i want Geass to be complete before i honestly sit and decide if i have in my harem or not.

Oh no! I’m jumping on the “Post about geass right after the episode has aired” bandwagon! Something has got to be wrong with me? I think it’s cause I’ve got Suzaku on my mind! He’s hated by so many yet i still like him, must be because he’s cute.

Don’t know why but ever since the first episode of Geass I’ve liked Suzaku.

So many people hate him i guess since he want with Britannia and against Lulu, but he just wanted to go about changing the world honestly, at least at first. yeah he betrayed the Japanese by killing his own father, who doesn’t make mistakes?

Or maybe I’m just defending him since i think he’s sooo-ooo cute!

I don’t’ know what it is about Suzaku i like the most, most of the characters i tend to like are somehow badass and cool. They have something special about them, but there isn’t much about Suzaku that i could name off.

Maybe it’s His devotion to Euphie? He did really love Euphie and his goal was to make a better world at her side…

Too bad she got geassed and was killed… Which was still an honest mistake of Lulu’s Imo.

Oh and no one can deny that he looks awfully sexy in his Knight of Rounds outfit. Brittania dressmakers also know how to make men’s clothes very well!

Come on! he’s even sexy in drag!

I’ve still got high hopes for the end of this series, yet somehow I’m also awaiting the train wreck that may happen. While i wouldn’t be the first person in a group to recommend Geass to someone, at the same time even with all it’s ups and downs and terrible story telling, I’m still enjoying this series! I’m still eager every Sunday for the next episode to come out! I’m eager to see what else sunrise will throw at us! For being such a “Terrible” show I’m still loving each and every minute of geass that i can get my hands on… Oh But if they dare kill of Suzaku, I’m boycotting anime for a week… (but only a week since without anime, I’d be bored to tears)

You had to go and kill off My favorite character? Really, Why would you do that? I’m so mad yet i still love you damn it! This is like an abusive relationship! You’re taking away the things i love the most yet i still cling to you!

Like Feldt I’ll still live on for you Lockon! Seriously he’s been my favorite character this entire time!

So many much awesomeness packed into one character, it’s hard not to like him!

Long hair, Sniper ability, awesome looking gundam, IRISH! Ok maybe the Irish thing is more of since my Bf is Irish so now I’m obligated to like Irish guys

But seriously, even when he lost an Eye i still loved him. So what if he can’t Snipe the enemy from long distances, he’s still pretty darn smexy…

Those aren’t the only reasons i like him. But even if there were no reasons, by process of elimination he’d be #1 anyways…

Setsuna F Seiei – He’s not only too young but as we saw with his reaction to Nena kissing him, he has no interest in women. Unless they are dressed like this, then maybe he’d be much more interested… Only thing he has going for him is Mamoru Miyano. But a good seiyuu doesn’t always save a character.

Allelujah Haptism – OK, well he’s kinda cute too but the over the eye emo hair has to go! But then he’s also got serious negative points for having a kill crazy split personality.

Tieria Erde – He’s just too girly for me. Yeah i know his character isn’t that girly, but come on! Purple hair, crying over Lockon getting hurt and the little pink cardigan doesn’t make him very manly…

I guess the only thing left to do is hope that Sunrise pulls a Sunrise and somehow brings him back from the dead! Even a Bionic Lockon would still be freaking sweet! Or do like they did in beerfest, bring back his Identical twin brother who taught him everything he knows, but is much better.

ZOMG EDIT!: So i wrote this right after i saw Episode 24, and I started watching Ep 25 just now. OMG Allelujah is how now with his hair away from his face!

While Itasha doesn’t really mean Otaku car but Painful Car

The word Itasha (痛車(いたしゃ))describes a car that has been plastered with anime stickers and other form of decoration. Literally means “pain(痛い(itai)) car(車(sha))” and for some reason the kanji for “pain” was chosen as it sounds like the “ita” from イタ車(itasha)which means Italian Car.

It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own Otaku car, one plastered with stickers and decals of my favorite Anime characters and finally i did it! My biggest reason for never doing this before were my parents objections. Technically it’s not my car, It’s the one i drive mainly and no one else drives it. Yet my parents pay for it and the insurance.
Well they finally gave me the clearance to plaster the car after i assured them that all the stickers are removable and that it won’t damage the paint whatsoever! I did these all myself with my own printer since each sticker was going to cost me an arm an a leg and this way it only cost me ink and paper costs… I’m very proud of how it came out!

Since my parents claim it to be “my” car i have to also pay for any repairs of the car, which is understandable since they pay for it in the first place. I’m missing two parts on the front a metal plate that goes over the grill and small triangular piece the goes by the right headlight. But the metal plate costs $400 and the the triangular piece $40. So since they aren’t necessary i don’t bother fixing them.

I’m very glad at how this came out, I wish it could have been bigger but this is the original resolution of this picture and any bigger would have been pixelated. The character is also Sakura from Card Captor Sakura my all time favorite anime!

The rest of the car i all Gurren Lagann. Since Yoko and Kamina are my favorite characters from GL it was hard to decide on which images to use for them.

I think bigger might have been better for them but then the size would have made it overlap the windows and i didn’t want that.

Love the detail of this image and i left the bullets on the car, i was going to cut them out but it thought it looked much cooler this way!

I was so tough finding a Kamina image that was gar yet had enough detail. All the images i found were of the back of him or far too small.

I was going to use a different image for the back window. One of Simon walking away, but i liked having the Gurren Dan logo instead!

My biggest worry with this sticker was being able to see outside from the inside of the car, luckily it doesn’t block much of my view while driving!
