Yamato turns it around with Knee Socks

I haven't been a fan of Yamato's work for quite some time. When I first started collecting figures they were more readily available and I owned a few but after I started finding better quality pieces I sold them all since they were so horrible. I haven't bought a Yamato figure in so many years but recently… [more]

Yoko in a Little Moda Dress

One of the awesome things I love about Etsy is fniding other talented people who make amazing things you end up buying. One thing I spotted was this adorable dress for a Dollfie Dream. But Alas since Yoko is such a busty girl it's hard to find outfits that fit her and I almost passed. That was until… [more]

Kotobukiya’s Mahoro w/Bike

Sadly I’m still sick but I’m feeling much better. I had more energy today to actually go outside for a change and i went and did another photo shoot with Mahoro this time. I’ve been dying to do a Mahoro shoot since i got her. I originally intended to do this on another stretch of road farther away but traffic has increased pretty badly in that area, and i didn’t want to risk putting myself or Mahoro in any danger.

Love the Detail on her gun, not sure if you can tell but it says VESPER on the side.

The face is done amazingly well considering that it’s Kotobukiya. They tend to be a little off when it comes to faces in general.

You can see my lovely car in the background here. She’s not the fastest little girl on the road but she gets me from A to B. Plus she’s awesome on the gas mileage.

The detail on her bike as also quite amazing. It’s the first thing i notice when i pulled her out of the box, just how amazing the detail on her bike really is.

The folds on her dress really suit her position, but i have a feeling that it would have gone up a teeny bit higher up on her leg.

My father has had a few motorcycle in his life and when i first got Mahoro even he was amazed at the detail on the bike. It really compliments this figure.

I know i keep raving about the bike but it’s the centerpiece of this figure, and the main reason she’s so expensive. While mahoro is a much smaller figure at a 1/12 scale the bike is what makes this figure. Some people have mentioned to me that this figure is out of character and doesn’t suit Mahoro. I think not, i have yet to see the anime in full but i’ve read the manga like 90 billion times (i might be exaggerating just a tad.) But i honestly feel this is perfectly suited to Mahoro, I can honestly see her cruising down the road, guns blazing, fighting off The Keepers on this bike. Plus it’s not like we haven’t seen official art of Mahoro on said bike.

I bought this figure at Anime Expo last year costing me about 70 bucks if i recall. For some reason i had trouble putting on the diecast metal parts on the bike. Did you encounter any trouble putting the bike together?? Otherwise she is a solid Figure for any collector

And go watch the anime when u get the chance!! Just to let u know don’t expect too much difference from the manga to the anime ending wise. >< Typical GAINAX

i got mine at AX last year as well! for about the same price too. Yeah the bike was a bit difficult to put together but i eventually got it put together.

nice background, suits her really well. the sun however, is a little bit too strong, you should make a diffuser, since you do outdoor photography ^^

oohh good tip! i’m still new to this photography thing. i’m trying to learn right now by trial and error so some of my pictures might not be as professional as i’d like. I’m planning on taking classes later on photography so i can learn more about lighting and such!

I was planning on getting this locally but unfortunately someone bought i before me and I’m too lazy to order it now. Always wanted one after seeing my friend buy the first production run. Even though it’s 1/12, its actually quite large when combined with the bike.

Good photos, but yeah, like ron~ said, lighting is too strong. If you want to take photos of figures outside, do it about an hour before the sunsets.

Very cool setting! The bike certainly is very attractive and if this figure were available to me not too long ago when I was still not very selective about figures, I would probably have grabbed it ^^

Haven’t watched the anime nor read the manga though, so even now when the figure is literally right before my eyes, I have no choice but to pass it up in favor of figures that I am familiar with (which sometimes leads to figures that are of poorer quality too at times ^^;)

Nice shots, the background fits with the figure ^^

I liked this series. When I saw this figure at a convention last year, I was planning on getting it, but it cost $120. I was a bit expensive for me. So I didn’t get, but I still plan on getting it.
Nice pictures!!! Like how you went outside and did it on the street. I hope you were careful when on the streets while cars were driving by. I hope your feeling better…

    Great scene!
    The bike looks very nice, but I am a bit sad she is that small. If not I would have purchase her… even if it would be much more expensive ^^;

  10. I remember this figure back when she was a resin exclusive. A friend of mine showed it to me on a korean forum and there were numerous horror stories about how difficult it was to build simply because they were separate kits. the bike was not made for the mahoro figure (unlike, say, the vispo figures) so there were major issues getting mahoro and the bike to stay together. that, and it would have been much more expensive than this version.

I’m guessing kotobukiya fixed those particular problems, but I’m not a PVC guy and I don’t particularly like this rendition of mahoro Chalk it up to the PVC-ness.

I would love to find a resin rendition of mahoro to paint sometime, though not this one. Can’t handle machinery like the bike. too much detail.

nice work, DQ, as always. you had to put the bike together? yeesh, what a pain. I have to disagree with a couple of my fellow commenters: I like the bright light. It pops up the details nicely, w/o a lot of distracting shadow. Maybe not “artsy-fartsy”, but shows the figure well.
I also would say that the character is not a motorcycle “type”, especially in the anime. She’s more likely to be found in a little roadster tooling along. I still love this figure/bike combo; looks really good.

  13. gordon says:

looks great. will be even better if there’s decals on the bike. ^^
