My Sheryl Nome Cosplay 95% complete!

Flickr Link

My Sheryl Nome Cosplay, from Macross Frontier, based on the outfit she wear’s during her concert on Frontier. I decide what cosplays I do for Anime Expo quite randomly, I eventually settled on this design because I already owned the boots and the shorts. I’m really glad I decided to do this outfit and I have to say I’m quite proud of the way it came out.

Here is the design that it’s originally based on, there are a few things I’m missing;

  • White Gloves -CHECK!
  • Riding Crop -CHECK!
  • Black Choker -CHECK!
  • Silver Wings for the Hat -CHECK!
  • Buckles on the Pants -CHECK!
  • Earings

but I should get getting them all soon within the next few weeks.

There are a few inconsistencies like the fact that I have gold buttons and not silver buttons, I don’t have blue eyes, and the silver buckle on the belt. But these things I’m really not that focused on changing. Contacts can be expensive since I need them with a prescription it would be costly so I’m not that focused on getting them but if i get my Settlement check for my Car Accident soon then I’ll go ahead and get the contacts. The belt I don’t really care to change but if i get enough people commenting that it’s terrible like this then I’ll try and go about changing it. The buttons I actually like in Gold rather than Silver, that’s my own personal preference. Hopefully there really isn’t anything noticeably wrong with the rest of the outfit. If you notice anything highly wrong let me know since i’ve still got time to fix things! BTW this cosplay was made with the love and support of the girls of Cosplaycute.com (the site’s down atm but it should be up soon!)

CosplayCute is a cosplay site made up myself and my two best friends in the entire world! Fancy India and Kawaii Clare, I’ve known them both for so many years. All of my cosplays this year were all a group effort between the three of us and once the site is up check back often for Cosplay News, Tips, and more!

hmm, definetly needed to look more pale, but you have boobs so no worries. Good job!

the blond wig makes me look so tan when i’m actually quite pale for a hispanic woman

in the first pic yeah, but not so much in the second. Oh well, all’s good.

people like mentioning boobs so instead ill mention the knee part, if you could get it to puff out somehow would help a bit but other than that (and I’m just nitpicking) it looks pretty damn good

    Dancing Queen Reply:

it’s supposed to puff out more but i put on my boots in a rush, but it’s not as poofy as the picture since it would end up falling over the boots

    Flip Reply:

I see no complaints from me then (since you seem to have all the missing stuff noted for yourself) so how do I get an icon on this site >.>?

Hope you manage to find all the extra pieces in time :3

    Dancing Queen Reply:

the riding crop, gloves, buckles, and choker don’t seem to be a problem i can get those in town. the earrings should arrive in the mail within two weeks, it’s the wings for the hat that have been a bit difficult so far

    Michi Reply:

Where are you getting the earrings? I think those are the toughest things to find for my Sheryl Cosplay~~

Wow, that’s an impressive Sheryl cosplay! ^^

Your choice for gold buttons seems wise, I don’t think the contrast of silver buttons with goldish trim on the jacket would look as good on a real costume as it does on the anime art.

Might want to puff out the knees of the pants towards the exterior a tad, it’ll bring it close to the original and it’ll make your thighs look longer and more slender on top.

For the hat crest, try military stores or the like for aviation crests.

Good choice on the cosplay though, since you’re cute it fits you well.

    Dancing Queen Reply:

i kinda rushed and put my boots on for the pictures but the knees do go out a bit further, i’m gonna go to a military store after work to try and track down the wings, hopefully i’ll find them! Thanks for agreeing on the gold buttons, plus i forgot when i bought them and got what i felt would look good

Wow, it looks great so far! It would be cool if you ran into a Ranka there. I saw a Sheryl and a Ranka at Anime Boston a few weeks ago, so I guess this series has some sort of popularity to it. I haven’t seen Macross F, but it’s one of the shows on the top of my “To Watch” list. Once I have the time, I’ll get right to it.

My favorite contacts site: http://www.colorlens4less.com/ They’re relatively cheap, especially the theatrical ones, plus they don’t ask for proof of prescription when you order (but you should still get your eyes checked by an eye doctor before shoving pieces of plastic into your eye . . . ^^)

Hope to see you at AX!

    Dancing Queen Reply:

see the problem is that my eyes aren’t the same prescription and i hvae to get one prescription for each eye so whatever the price i have to double it, but it seems like my insurance is good now and i can get them through my eye doctor, i’ve got an appointment so i should be able to get them and for cheap too!

Cosplay is truly an amazing thing, to be able to make such outfits on a whim. If I tried that I’d end up looking like a cheap ripoff. I admire those (like you) that can really pull it off.

    Dancing Queen Reply:

well thanks, i really appreciate the comment and i do try my best to make it look as close to the original design as possible! Even thought there are tons of inconsistencies within even the original design and some things that just don’t work on real clothing or look flattering on people, it doesn’t look like but we made tons of tiny changes to this cosplay to make it more flattering

I have to say, I am damn proud of that jacket (especially since I suck at patterns and have not made very many things for other people). I think we did a good job considering we didn’t know what we were doing. lol
The yellow trim really makes it look awesome, I am sure that took forever, good job, ma’am. Heh heh Now you must return the favor and bead my lace! Mawahahah!

One thing people should keep in mind with tiny details is there are about 11 costumes being made on one machine (for 5 different people), with one person making patterns and only 2 people who know how to sew. We just couldn’t spend the time on the tiniest details… :( So, be nice when being nit picky. Plus, the show is very inconsistent with the details. ^^ I think she looks awesome.

PS Everyone should know Dancing Queen is a good sewing monkey/slave, you should all be jealous ;)

    Dancing Queen Reply:

thanks india! i do love my jacket and think you did an amazing job in making that and helping me out with everything! i owe you a nice lunch or dinner

Ooooo, very nice! I like that you got a wig with the pink highlights in it~

I’ve been thinking about cosplaying Sheryl in this outfit for awhile. Just wondering, did you follow a pattern for the jacket or did you make it up yourself? Also, how did you make the hat? (sorry for the questions, but I love finding out how people make their costumes XD )

Lareins last blog post..Been awhile! Oh hey, Fanime!

    Dancing Queen Reply:

the jacket was from a basic dress patten that we toyed around with and changed into a double breasted jacket patten, sounds confusing but really once we figure out where we wanted everything to go ti worked out quite well. the hat was actually a hat i foun in a costume shop that i just put the material i used for my jacket over it to fit it onto the hat to make it the same color as the rest of the cosplay

    Larein Reply:

Oh ok, thank you very much!
